Medical Team

Phyllis had the opportunity to serve with a medical team.
There were 3 doctors, 2 dentists, and 30 university students.
We worked alongside of 33 Kekchi local health workers.
A view from our headquarters near Semesche.
Our meals were severed from this kitchen.
Kati was the friendly main cook.
Volunteers unpacked tooth brushes to give out in the schools.
Dental studies and fluoride treatments benefited the students.
Tooth brush holders made for the schools.
Follow up dental studies will be done in each school.
Medicines needed to be packaged too.
One morning the keys to the rental truck got locked inside.
We walked 40 minutes to one community situated
in the valley below.  The next day we walked over an hour
arriving ahead of the supply trucks that traveled two hours.
We discussed how to help this baby with a cleft palate get help.
The cleft lip had been repaired earlier, but the parents hadn’t
followed through with getting the palate surgery done.
Phyllis interpreted.
All children under five were weighed and evaluated.
90 % of all the children were malnourished.
Take a peep of a lovely sunrise.  Note the quarter moon.
The clouds hovering in the valley appeared like an icy lake.
Most of the team slept in tents.
A loaded truck with an examining table.
Those who could got rides in the back with the supplies.
A local health worker rides dangerously.
More supplies
 There goes the examining  table.

The lab tech
We worked in four different communities.
The team bonded together in newly found friendships.
Let us know if you would like to come and serve
on a medical team in the future.

  1. Wonderful ! W hat a great experience for the students, terrific pictures, and jaw dropping views. I love the photo of the mountains in cloud cover. It is great to see how God is using you to help both k'tchi people and the US students.
