The Coban Dump Community

Vilma Chavez visited to invite me to go along
with the youth to visit the community living
at the dump in Coban.  I changed my plans
and went along and really had fun.

We traveled on the back of a pick-up truck.

A nurse who works at the Coban hospital caught
a vision to help this community after listening to
a father talk about the living conditions there.
She got funds for building a school and a clinic.
She now has plans to build a home for the elderly.

How sad to see a young drunk man along
the road so early in the day.

A small community nestled on a hillside.

The students expectantly waited for the story

Vilma taught about the tree that bears good fruit.

The youth handed out cups of jello.

They also served a drink, a taco, and cake.

Posing for pictures

A bed spring makes a lovely barrier.

Small houses in the community

Weighing trash that was scavenged from the dump.

We are all commanded to reach out
to the poor among us.  Deuteronomy 15:11
