Celebration in Canlech

The Canlech congregation held a weekend celebration.
This was a good time for us to connect with many old friends.
We walked the trail for a baptism held in a cave near Nacimiento.
The rivers are low at the end of the dry season and
it is hard to find a good place for a baptism.
Careful stepping was required to cross this bridge.
Arrival at the cave.
Inside the cave.
Looking around the cave.
Galen read a few scriptures on the importance of baptism
in the cool shade of the cave.
Santiago Chicoj, Galen, and Pablo Tzul officiated at the baptism.
Here they are discussing how to proceed with the baptism.
Six people were baptized this day.
Most of them sons and daughters of believers.
Galen giving a hand.
Woman washed clothes in the river outside the cave.
In the kitchen woman busily prepared for the feast.
More than a thousand people attended the gathering.
The men killed three cows for the celebration.
This man guarded the meat from dogs and chickens.
One deacon told me he had watched over the meal all night.
These chickens are tied to be meat for the pot later.
In the afternoon the youth paraded down the streets.
Many groups from different churches in the area participated.

The church was filled with youth and adults. Some people didn’t get a seat.
These were gifts given during the offering for the church.
We told the crowd about the new mission in Chicuis.
Afterwards one brother gave us one thousand quetzales to help this mission.
The cool of the day is the best time for walking and what a lovely view.
