Saturday morning we headed out early to attend a woman’s meeting in La Tinta, but our plans were changed due to a huge landslide. We had to turn around, but learned that there was an alternate route.
However the trip would take several hours longer.
Praise the Lord for cell phones. We called the leader in La Tinta and told him we could not make it time for the woman’s meeting, but would try to come later with the survey team as planned.
The alternate route was long, but a beautiful drive through several coffee plantations at corn harvest time.
That’s a heavy load of corn carried a long way. We saw many men carrying their loads.
The women in La Tinta had a lovely meal waiting for us. The children greeted us warmly. Their smiling faces glowed beside the beautiful flowers decorating the front of the church. Two months earlier when we visited this church there were dead flowers. The pastor and his wife were discouraged and the congregation hadn’t met for several weeks. We encouraged them to pray and visit. How lovely to see the body of Christ rejuvenated and working together again.
One of the women and her children gave Phyllis a large bunch of bananas. All but five of those bananas got eaten over the weekend as we traveled together to visit three other churches.
We had an hour’s walk to Raxtul.
Note the trail along the mountain in the distance and the smoke rising from the community.
Oh! A group of cows on our path.
It’s difficult to know how friendly those cows are?
Cute little herder learning to do what his Dad does.
And who are you?
We’re almost there.
We arrived!
Phyllis taught these children for two hours while their parents were busy doing the survey.
Busy answering questions for the survey
Some needed help as they don’t know how to read and write.
The survey will help us know who the Kekchi Mennonite believers are and what they believe.

Beautiful photos!! Looks like you had a great trip. We prayed for you all.
