Every year the Kekchi women meet for a two day retreat
traveling from many different churches.
Ninety five women attended this year.
Some come just for the day’s teaching and than return home.
Those from far sleep overnight and continue the sharing together.
A small group of women gathered the first night.
The next day the saloon filled up with women.
Many different women participate in directing the meetings,
singing, reading scripture, and giving a study.
This woman had a difficult year when she was hospitalized for three months
with complication in her pregnancy. The doctor’s told her to abort the baby
as they didn’t think the fetus would endure the problem.
The family told the doctor that they would wait as they believed
that God had given this unborn baby life and only God should take it away.
Now you can see the baby in her hands.
I rejoice with her for God’s miracle of love.
Francisca taught on the importance of studying the Bible.
She shared her own testimony of how God changed her life
through the study of His Word.
We asked a few pastors to give studies too.
After Sebastian Ical’s message the women came forward
to kneel and pray as God’s Spirit moved among us.
The prayer of confession and worship continued for twenty minutes.
The Spirit of God touched us in a special way.
One of the favorite things for the women is learning
how to prepare different foods.
This year they were taught to make enchiladas.
We teach them how to make food that can be sold
to help with the family’s income.
We had six different groups preparing enchiladas together.
Shaping the dough
Frying the dough
They all got a taste of the finished product.
Sharing continues while eating meals together.
The women were grateful for those who entertained
and taught their children during our teaching sessions.
Twenty five children stayed in a separate room with their teachers,
but there were some shy ones or little ones who opted to stay with their mothers.

The children sang for us at the closing of our assembly.
However many children had already left with their mothers earlier.
Women packed up and ready to return to their homes.
Many expressed eagerness to get back to see how their other children
and husband fared during their absence.
